I am sure many of you have heard; we received a lot of snow in the Northeast last weekend. At our home we measured over a foot of snow, most of which has melted. The snow was beautiful, but destructive. It was a wet snow that heavily coated all the leaves that remained from our late Fall. As a result, many trees came down onto power lines. This caused many, many power outages. Luckily our power was recently restored, but some communities are still without. Going without power for four days definitely forces you to respect our ancestors who did without.
Without power we had some extra time off of work with our favorite gal. We spent alot of time in the living room without internet (except for our smart phones) or television distractions. In the living room, we had a wood fire to keep us warm and Emma to provide all the entertainment we needed. At night, we slept as a family, cuddled up in bed for warmth. It was a genuine good time.
Some of Emma's favorite activities included:
- experiencing snow for the first time,
- eating snow,
- showing off her hat head,
- playing with her toys and staying warm by the fire,
- napping in many, many layers,
- sleeping in momma and papa's bed,
- splashing (and making a mess!) while bathing in the kitchen, and
- looking pretty (that comes naturally)!
When power returned, normal life returned like nothing ever happened - back to work, laundry, stove-top cooking, etc.
