Colorado Travels

We headed west for a weekend adventure in Colorado.  It was a much needed family mini-vacation.  We spent time in Rocky Mountain National Park, Boulder, and Denver.  The weekend's activities culminated with the wedding of two friends.  Unfortunately, our weekend vacation flew by, but not before Emma enjoyed the following activities:

  • Hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park;
  • Experiencing her first unexpected blizzard;
  • Getting her National Park Passport stamped for the first time;
  • Eating Indian food at Yak & Yeti and Mexican food at Tahona and enjoying veggie samosas and duck nachos with her parents who were excited for some culinary diversity;
  • Shopping on Pearl Street and helping Papa pick out a Mother's Day gift for Mama;
  • Crawling around and exploring the hotel room (she really enjoyed the carpet);
  • Playing peek-a-boo with the bed comforter (I think her official first word is "Boooo");
  • Expressing her frustrations when she couldn't reach or do something (she is getting quite vocal, and by vocal I mean whiny);
  • Swimming in the hotel pool and making friends with the ladies at the pool;
  • Smiling and laughing for the hotel workers and breakfast attendant;
  • Having a girls' night with Mama when Papa went go-karting with the boys;
  • Hanging with Papa when Mama went to afternoon tea with the ladies;
  • Eating a free breakfast of yogurt, bananas, toast, and cheerios (all of her favorites) at the hotel;
  • Attending a beautiful wedding and sitting quietly during the ceremony;
  • Sitting not so quietly during the wedding toasts and reception; and
  • Shopping at REI's flagship store in Denver and daydreaming about all of our future family adventures.
Here are some actions shots of Emma enjoying what Colorado had to offer:

Emma received "wings" from the flight
attendants during the trip to Colorado.

Enjoying the views and photo-vantage points that Rocky
 Mountain National Park had to offer.

We hiked in a very unexpected snowstorm - luckily
it was a short hike!

Enjoying the waterfalls in Rocky Mountain
National Park.

Plotting on how she will fill her National Park
Passport with stamps!

Snoozing while shopping on Pearl Street.

Ready for the hotel pool!  She loves teethers
right now; I'm expecting a few more to pop
through any day now.

Radar Lastrico-Masters is this calm cool and collect dog.  This
is the closest and most comfortable she's been with a dog.

Queen of the carseat throne!

All dressed up and ready for the Lastrico-Masters wedding affair!

Watching cartoons with her Pop on the flight back to Boston.

Emma was a good sport with the travels.  Each travel day she tackled planes, trains, and automobiles.  The trip to Colorado was easier than the trip home.  A combination of staying out late, poor sleep, and grumpiness made travel home difficult.  I'm definitely nervous and hesitant about all the single mommy travel I'll be doing with Emma the next three weeks.

What a great trip! Don't worry Emma will be well behaved the whole time you are in California. I sure wish I was there to visit with her. And you of course!
