Happy Birthday?

"Its hard to believe it was five years and two more beautiful girls ago." -Seth  It was Ava's fifth birthday or what would have been.  This date always sneaks up on me.  It rolls in like a fog - thick, suffocating, but beautiful.

Emma was excited to hear it was Ava's birthday and immediately requested birthday cake at 6:30 am.  So that was what we did - we made a few cupcakes.  We also celebrated Ava's birthday with a balloon release.  Emma was in charge of their release and the balloons are currently stuck in a tall pine in our front yard.  :)

This year we fielded a lot of questions about Ava from Emma.  Why, why, why?  Questions I tried to provide simple and honest answers to.  "Her mommy and papa are your mommy and papa."  "We couldn't take her home because she wasn't strong enough."  "Yes, she was your sister."  Good questions for a smart little almost 3-year-old.
