Camping, Round Two

A week after Camping Round One, we headed back into the woods for some more camping fun.  This time we camped in the White Mountains at a NH state park called Moose Brook.  Moose Brook State Park is a small park with a lovely swimming hole and beautiful campsites.  Our campsite was remote with a beautiful fireplace, built in the 1930's.  We must return!  Unfortunately, it was a quick trip (only one night).  We were in the area for a wedding and opted to camp while in town.

In the past, we camp using backpacking sleeping mats (similar to this).  These are narrow and allow for ample space for Emma's stuff and her own, separate sleeping space.  Well there hasn't been such a thing as "separate" sleeping space for Emma.  So this camping trip (round two) we brought our queen size air mattress and we all piled in together.  Seth and I slept at the edges with Emma in the middle - spinning, body slamming, and flailing.  Seth and I experienced less disturbances than the cramped sleeping quarters created when using our sleeping mats.  We all woke up much happier.

While camping and attending a wedding in the White Mountains, Emma enjoyed the following activities:
  • Eating her first chicken mcnugget and dipping everything (chicken, fries, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and fingers);
  • Sleeping for most of the three-hour car ride to the campground;
  • Getting dressed up for a lovely wedding;
  • Generally staying quiet during the ceremony;
  • Playing with her third cousins while at the wedding;
  • Dancing with her Great Uncle George and Grandpa Soos;
  • Having fun dancing with her Papa and Mama (I think her parents had more fun!);
  • Enjoying all the music - I think the 80's dance tunes were her favorites;
  • Slow dancing with her Papa;
  • Staring at the fun lights and people while on the dance floor;
  • Crying (she didn't want to go!) when saying good bye to the groom;
  • Staying up until 9:30 pm (!!!);
  • Waking up smiling, chatting, and playing at 4:30 am and then finally crashing again at 5:30 am (thank god!);
  • Helping breakdown all the camping gear; and
  • Eating some breakfast and doing some outlet shopping with Grandpa and Grandma Soos.
Here are a few photos of our recent camping adventures:
