We have officially entered the "Why?" phase. As Emma ponders the meaning of life (see moment captured below), she has inundated us with why's. She surprised us with a random why one day this weekend. We wondered is this the start of the "why" phase (we recently had a friend's toddler enter this phase)? We didn't hear it again for the rest of the day. Then she woke up the next morning and wanted to know the meaning of everything. Why, why, why - we heard it all day, and it hasn't stopped yet.
Here is a glimpse into a recent conversation with Emma (and the one we were having when I snapped this photograph).
Emma: "I want to hold hands with the sea gull."
Mom: "You can't hold hands with the sea gull."
Emma: "Why?"
Mom: "Because you are human and the sea gull is an animal."
Emma: "Why?"
Mom: "Because you have hands; and the sea gull only has claws."
Papa: "Actually a sea gull has talons."
Emma: "Why?"
Mom: "Because of what Papa said."
Emma: "Why?"
Mom: "Because I said so."
