Getting Ready for Her Baby Sister or Brother!

Now that the two month countdown is in full swing, we are busy getting ready for the new baby.  Childbirth preparation has started, decisions on a birth plan have been made, baby stuff has made its way back into our home, and discussions about the pending lack of sleep have taken place.  New baby is on the brain.

Emma has always been conscious of the "baby belly".  And a couple months ago, we started bringing her along to my midwife appointments.  She loves seeing the midwives and checking on the "baby belly".  In her own way, she helps during the appointments by: weighing herself, showing the midwife her belly when Mama's belly is exposed, laying down and relaxing with Mama, eating snacks, and requesting to go to the bathroom in the middle of the appointment.  :)  One activity with the midwives stands out as the most fun and that was when we got to watch the baby on the "baby belly tv" (aka ultrasound).  All of us enjoy our visits with the midwives as we prepare for the new arrival.

Preparations at home have also begun.  Emma has a few books about becoming a big sister.  These are her favorite reading materials right now.  Papa has been crawling around the attic space collecting our infant stuff.  He and Emma put together the baby's crib thanks to some gifts from Grandma Shelar.  Although Emma likes to remind us that the crib is hers.  And that is when Papa reminds Emma that it was really his crib when he was a baby.  (Her response is the typical "Why?")

Regarding the baby's sex.  Mama and Papa have no idea; however, Emma is very opinionated on the subject.  If you ask her if it will be a boy or a girl she says with confidence "A boy!"  If you ask her if she wants a baby sister or a baby brother, she always responds "Baby Sister!"  However, if she is asked this question at school, she tells them "baby brother".  So who knows!!!!
