Dirt

A favorite activity of Emma's while hanging out in the backyard is moving dirt.  She created very specific procedures with Grandma Soos while Mama was away in April.  Since then, she follows them meticulously!  I'll attempt to provide the dirt moving procedures for you to enjoy on your own time in your own backyard (ours has too many holes).  Grandma Soos, feel free to chime in if I've incorrectly described a step.

  1. Put buckets and potential soil-holding containers into a line on picnic table.
  2. Obtain shovel and find part of lawn that does not have grass (providing easiest access to dirt).  Two known areas exist in our backyard (Area 1 and 2).
  3. Collect one bucket and go to Area 1.  Halfway there, stop, turn around, and go to Area 2.
  4. Squat and get one scoop of soil in shovel and place in bucket.
  5. Secure bucket back at it's original location, the picnic table.
  6. Complete steps 3, 4, and 5 until all buckets and containers have soil.
  7. At the picnic table, pour all soil from the buckets and containers into the green container.
  8. Pat bottom of each container to make sure all soil is placed into green container.
  9. Dump soil from green container on the ground.
  10. Go back to step 1.
Here are some photos of Emma enjoying her dirt adventures.
